May 2008 Honors Ceremony

Students who have been selected by their schools and colleges to participate in this event are graduating with Honors Certificates, Departmental Honors, Divisional Honors or Latin Honors (summa cum laude, magna cum laude and cum laude). All Honors graduates will receive a bronze medallion cast for this occasion, featuring an image of the Columns.

Students should contact the commencement liaison for their school or college to inquire about participating.

The May 2008 Honors Convocation will be held Saturday, May 17 at 9:00 a.m. on Francis Quadrangle.

Mizzou Arena will be the backup in case of bad weather. Announcements about the ceremony will be made on all local radio stations.

The ceremony will begin at 9 a.m. in Mizzou Arena. Students and Mentors attending the ceremony need to report to the Practice Gym between 8:00 a.m. and 8:30 a.m.  Entrance to practice gym is through the Missouri Basketball entrance on the north side of Mizzou Arena.


Event Date and Location

All graduates and faculty mentors participating in the ceremony must wear academic regalia.


Mentors

All honor graduates and mentors will congregate at the Carnahan Quad (open area between Hulston Hall and the Reynolds Alumni center) between 8:00 - 8:30 a.m. If weather is bad, congregate in the practice gym at Mizzou Arena at the same time. The processional will begin at 8:45 a.m. sharp. There will be eight check-in tables (last name A-C, D-F, etc.) for students and mentors to check-in. Students will receive their commencement programs and reader cards.

Reminders: Chairs on the Quadrangle will be provided for all honor grads and mentors. Limited additional seating will be provided. Family and friends may want to bring lawn chairs.

Over 600 people will be in the processional. Students should convey this information to their mentors.

Students participating in the ceremony will receive additional information in the mail.


Event Instructions

Please read the following carefully and bring a copy of this information with you the morning of May 17.

  • Students and mentors should come to the Carnahan Quad (open area between Hulston Hall and the Reynolds Alumni Center) to check-in and receive name cards between 8:00 and 8:30 a.m. (no later than 8:30 a.m.). Students should advise their mentors of the location of check-in. Students must wear their caps and gowns, and mentors should be dressed in their academic regalia. If it rains, this lineup activity will occur in the Mizzou Arena.
  • The processional will walk north in two lines across Conley Avenue and around Jesse Hall to the Quadrangle, one line going around the east side of Jesse Hall and one line around the west side.
  • Students and mentors will need to be in line by 8:30 a.m. at the latest. The processional will start no later than 8:45 a.m.
  • Mentors will remain seated when their students go forward to receive their medallions.
  • In case of rain, we will line up in the practice gym in Mizzou Arena in the same order. Enter Mizzou Arena from the north door. At 8:45 a.m., we will proceed to the Mizzou Arena.
