My original mentor cannot attend honors with me, so I would like to choose another mentor but the website will not allow me to enter my new mentor’s name.
You will need to have your original mentor enter your information on the mentor’s website and decline your invitation. Once this step has been completed, you will be notified with an e-mail to your University e-mail account. Then you will need to enter your new mentor’s information on the honors website, so they will receive an invitation.
I am graduating from my school/college (e.g. College of Arts and Sciences, Business,), and have received the invitation for the honors ceremony. Do I have to go to both ceremonies? I only want to go to the honors ceremony. Do I need to notify my school/college I will not be attending their ceremony?
It is not mandatory that you participate in any of the graduation ceremonies at MU. However, both of the ceremonies are completely different.
As far as notifying your school/college, you will need to contact your school/college about the requirements for graduates to RSVP. For more information on your school/college ceremony, you should contact your school/college or visit their website.
I received an e-mail about graduation but I am not graduating this term. Who do I notify?
Each Academic Unit is responsible for setting the expected graduation dates for their students. You will need to contact your academic advising office to notify them of the change.
I graduated in December and was eligible to participate in the December honors ceremony but did not attend the honors ceremony. I decided to participate in my school/college commencement ceremony in May, so I would like to participate in the May honors ceremony.
Students are eligible to participate in the honors ceremony during the term they are graduating. Since you did not participate in the December ceremony, you can still receive your medallion. Please visit the Office of the University Registrar, 125 Jesse Hall to receive your medallion. You will need to show your student ID when you pick up the medallion.
I was not able to attend the honors ceremony. Can I still receive my medallion? Do you mail out the medallions? If I cannot pick up my medallion, can a friend pick up my medallion?
Students, who are not able to attend the ceremony, can pick up their medallion in the Office of the University Registrar, 125 Jesse Hall the Monday following commencement weekend. Please bring your student ID with you at the time of pick up. Our office hours are Monday- Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
If you cannot pick up your medallion, you can authorize someone else to pick the medallion up for you. You would need to send with the individual a written permission letter authorizing them to receive your medallion. (E-mail permission can’t be accepted.)
Please make sure in the letter that you include your name, student Id number, the name of the individual picking up the medallion, sign and date the letter. The individual who picks up the medallion will have to present a picture id.
The honors lists are retained, so there is no rush to pick them up.
The Office of the University Registrar does not mail medallions.
I am studying abroad this term and will not be able to participate in the honors ceremony this term. Will I be able to participate in the ceremony next term? Also, since I am eligible for honors but will not be able to attend, can I receive my medallion; will it be mailed to me?
Students usually participate in the honors ceremony during the semester they are receiving their degree. However, we understand that there are extenuating circumstances, like studying abroad during your last term. For extenuating circumstances, the University Registrar has to approve a student’s request to participate in the honors ceremony during another term. You will need to submit a letter to the University Registrar (information below), explaining your extenuating circumstances preventing you from participating in the honors ceremony during the term of your graduation. Your letter should be sent to: Brenda Selman, Assistant Vice Provost & University Registrar-MU, 125 Jesse Hall, Columbia, MO 65211-1140.
See the question above about picking up your medallion if you cannot attend.
